About
Head Mentor - Kane Felsinger

The Positive Mentor was a lighting bulb moment when I was discussing with a group of teachers what teaching has become, and it made me realise after 10+ years of being a teacher, how far I had come from what I loved about teaching. I was about to administered another assessment to aid with standardised testing when I saw my students no longer thriving and not even bothered with surviving. They hated school, and I couldn't fight it anymore.

FISO 2.0
The Positive Mentor and the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes (FISO 2.0) can work together harmoniously to create effective in-school workshops by integrating their core elements and shared goals. Here's how: Building a positive environment: FISO 2.0 aims to create a positive environment through strong relationships, which aligns with The Positive Mentor's focus on building resilience and confidence. Fostering student wellbeing: Both approaches prioritize student wellbeing as a key factor in achieving excellence and equity in education. Enhancing student engagement: The Positive Mentor's emphasis on mentoring and guidance complements FISO 2.0's goal of improving student engagement and motivation. Developing a growth mindset: FISO 2.0 promotes a continuous improvement cycle, which can be supported by The Positive Mentor's focus on personal growth and self-awareness. Addressing diverse needs: Both frameworks are inclusive and cater to students with varied learning needs, such as those with disabilities, Koorie students, and English as an Additional Language (EAL) students. By integrating the principles of The Positive Mentor and FISO 2.0, in-school workshops can effectively promote student wellbeing, engagement, and overall educational success.
